I was born 50 years too late. 


Growing up with the Andy Griffith Show, I Love Lucy, Roy Rogers, and The Lone Ranger.....yea.....I was convinced as I child that I'd been jipped.

The good old western wisdom and 50's faith just can't be beat. 

I love it......(and the latest reality tv shows and dramas....BUT.....that's a different story;)


John that cowboy.  One of my favorite quotes from him is,

“Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday.

I can totally be that person who gets to the end of the day and thinks, "Well that was stupid" thinking about every way in which I messed up that day. Lame, I know.

But I gotta side with the long as you learn from your mistakes, pick yourself up by the boot straps, and swear to make it better tomorrow.....then today wasn't a complete flop.

Miss me?? Yea, yea, yea,....I know.....feels like forever since I posted. Ok, well it kinda has been;) 

For better or for worse, I'm one of those people who falls head-long into whatever it is I want. If I want it, I go for it, few questions asked. 

Like the semester at college when I decided I wanted to become a trainer for Guide Dogs for the Blind.  (which was partially influenced by the fact that we donated my childhood dog, Niko, to become a guide dog, like 15 years previous.....and he eventually ended up on a TV commercial as a kid's guide dog.......#winnerwinnerchickendinner   #proudmama;) a busy broke college student......that was a good one;)

BUT...I took it and ran with it. I got to meet some amazing people, learn some unique skills, and of to coddle some uber cute puppies......#heartmelt. It was an i.n.c.r.e.d.i.b.l.e. experience! Half way through my involvement with the guide dog association, my Mom called me and asked me, "Why not just get a regular puppy? Why go through all the training, hassle, supervising, etc. of raising a puppy you'll eventually have to give up??"

Good point. 

Obviously, her question made me think......

And it eventually hit me why I was finding SO much satisfaction and joy in this type of work......because it wasn't for ME. Yea, the thought of eventually having to give up a puppy I'd raised, loved, and put so much time and effort into nearly broke my heart, but IT WAS WORTH IT. Because I was doing it for someone who needed that help, and who couldn't do it on their own, I found immense satisfaction and joy!

Being with puppies was beyond fun, but knowing that they would eventually infinitely bless anothers' life.....that was beyond REWARDING!!!

I found myself through others. You can too! Go out, find the fun in service, and find yourself in doing it for other people!!! 

You know what the Book of Mormon says, "And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellowbeings ye are only in the service of your God" (Mosiah 2:17)

Day 30!! Woop Woop!!

Ya made it!!

Truth be told, I'm kinda sad it's the end. 'bout we don't end it?? Yea, I may not be posting every day the next challenge or tip, but this 30 Day thing has got me in the habit of doing something every day to make me happier.

And you know what they say, it takes over three weeks to make something a habit. So hey, you're already there;)

Day 30: Create your own 30 Day Happiness Challenge. 

Whoooooooaaaa what?? Ya heard me.

It doesn't have to be a formal thing, just make a game plan for the next 30 days. How are you going to keep up the happiness?? Don't end now......

Party don't stop so keep it up.

Confession session......sometimes I can be a worrywart.

I stress over stuff I can't control, worry about things that will probably never happen, and waste way too much energy thinking about the past and future, that I often forget to enjoy the present.

It's dumb.

I've started to notice how lame that is. Really. It takes all the love out of the moment. Instead of just forgetting to even SMELL the flowers, you forget they're there all together.

So here's my game plan.....Day 29: Write down 5 things you're stressing over. Then cross off the ones you can't immediately control. 

If you can control some of them, instead of worrying over the whole thing, write down just ONE thing you can do to better the situation.

Accept the things that are outside your control. Dwell on what you can change. Then have the courage to do it. 

If you can't change it, DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT.


Accepting things outside of your control reduces suffering

You know those times when you walk through a museum or other artistic display and think....."Well, whatever creative abilities I thought I had are now non-existant."

Been there, done that. 

BUT, a talk given a short while ago by Dieter F. Uchtdorf about creating, changed that.   

(Oh, and btw....this post is kinda if you wanna skip to the video at the end.....he says it better than I do.....or better than even written text does;)

He said: "You might say, “I’m not the creative type." If that is how you feel, think again, and remember that you are spirit sons and daughters of the most creative Being in the universe. Isn’t it remarkable to think that your very spirits are fashioned by an endlessly creative and eternally compassionate God? 

You may think you don’t have talents, but that is a false assumption, for we all have talents and gifts, every one of us. The bounds of creativity extend far beyond the limits of a canvas or a sheet of paper and do not require a brush, a pen, or the keys of a piano.  

Creation means bringing into existence something that did not exist before—colorful gardens, harmonious homes, family memories, flowing laughter."

That talk has given me the drive to continue to not be shy in attempting (emphasis in attempting;) to create.

"No matter our talents, education, backgrounds, or abilities, we each have an inherent wish to create something that did not exist before. Everyone can create. You don’t need money, position, or influence in order to create something of substance or beauty.

Creation brings deep satisfaction and fulfillment. We develop ourselves and others when we take unorganized matter into our hands and mold it into something of beauty."  (Elder Dieter F Uchtdorf)

Day 28: You Create.

Create whatever it is that you can, or would like to create. It doesn't have to be perfect or even pretty. Just create! Bring to existance something that did not exist before!!

 Whoooaa.....didn't see that one coming did ya?? Pics at the start.....I'm throwing you off, I know....;)

Well, here's the thing......I believe that God has instilled in each of us unique qualities and personalities. We are literally His sons and daughters, possessing talents and abilities that define who we are, and we have the potential to become just like Him.

Embrace who you are, because you were made by HIM!

You are you!!!  How cool is that??

A little while back I made a poster (......yes.....I included pictures below;) that was everything that defined ME. Things that make me smile, my favorite hobbies and interests, and small life moments that mean the world to me. 

I had a b.l.a.s.t. making it......I still look at it sometimes, and just smile....

Cause like Dr. Seuss said....You are YOU! Now isn't that pleasant?

Day 27: Write down things that make you YOU--your hobbies, interests, favorite foods, seasons, activities, moments, etc.

Day 26: Sunrise, Sunset

Thursday, June 5, 2014 I actually don't like that at all........(it's not a warm and fuzzy, happiness-booster movie, just in case you're wondering, so don't go off and watch it.....that's not today's challenge.......chill:)

Nope....but I needed the title soooooo....that's my excuse. Whatevs....keep reading:

Ever remember those mornings at summer camp or those evenings in the fall, when you just took time to watch the sunrise or sunset?  Makes me all chillaxed just to think about it.....


Sometimes, watching that beautiful burst of nature gets me in those "life is good" moods where I can take a step back and appreciate living.

Day 26: Set aside time to watch the sunrise or sunset.   

Love living.        Think positively.        Appreciate nature.       Thank God.

I do. Probably too many, actually. 

I LOVE my quotes.....they make me happy and keep me going when I have a rough day.

Scriptures, motivational sayings, funny lines.....I love them all and have them all around my apartment. Sooooo often, they're exactly what I need to hear when the world tells me otherwise.

So why not share the love??      

Day 25: Put up 5 quotes that make you smile or bring you happiness. 

Oh.....and word of advice: put them where you can see them often, and where they won't turn into wallpaper in 2 hours.....

Day 24: Think.....Think......Think

Out of all the long church meetings, conferences, and lectures I was put through as a kid, there's probably only ONE speech I remember.

It was at a large church service, and the area president, got up and after about 10 minutes of speaking (all of which, I can't remember now....) he paused and then said.....

"Take time to THINK."

I have no idea why that stuck with me.....gosh, that was probably over 10 years ago, but I remember it and think about that often.

In today's world.....we so often don't take the time to stop, ponder, and just plain think. 

Meditate. Ponder. Take time to sort things out in your mind. Its proven to boost self-confidence, reduce stress and anxiety, and increase your outlook on life. 

Day 24:  Take time to THINK

Give yourself ten minutes to an hour just to ponder and take a step back. See the big picture.......
